Troop 555 gives each Scout the chance to earn money that goes
into his own account to spend on Troop activities. Here are some of our
ongoing activities and the fundraisers that support those activities:
Ongoing
Activities:
Fundraisers:
- Pancake
Breakfasts: A
popular fund-raiser is
the Pancake Breakfast held periodically at the St. Bartholomew
Church hall. Scout parents donate most of the
ingredients and supplies, and the Scouts cook pancakes, ham, sausage,
and
also serve coffee, milk, juice, applesauce and fruit cocktail.
Scouts
collect the money, record sales, serve the food, and clean up. Members
of
the parish always admire the Scouts’ hard work,
self-organization, and good
cheer—not to mention their uniforms. Leftover pancakes and
meat are frozen and
saved for the next troop campout.
- Popcorn
Sales: The troop sells
popcorn twice each year. A portion of the
funds goes to the troop and a portion goes into the the ccounts of the
individual scouts who participate, which helps cover their admission to
upcoming group activities and outings.
- Bingo
Night: The Columbus Knights
of Columbus provides the opportunity
for scouts and their adult partner (usually mom or dad) to earn money
for their scouting activities and for the troop. Currently
this
is $35 plus tips for the scout and $15 for the troop. This is
done through working in the kitchen and the window taking orders and
completing sales of food, snacks, and soft drinks. Bingo
happens
most
Fridays throughout the year and scouts sign up for dates on the sheet
as announced at troop meetings. Knights of Columbus permits
smoking in the Bingo hall so those with severe allergies or aversion to
cigarette smoke are discouraged from working this fundraiser.
- Elsbury Certificate Sales:
Certificates
sell for $10 each and are redeemable for
$10 worth of plants/supplies (not limited to plants only this year) at
Elsbury's Greenhouse in Hope, Indiana. There is no limit to
the
number of
certificates that a customer can redeem when they purchase
plant/supplies (i.e.
flowers, vegetable plants, shrub, trees, etc). The
expiration date
is summer 2011.
Scouts
will earn $2.00 for
each certificate sold (20% commission). This money will be
deposited directly
into the individual scout's account. The troop does not
receive
any money
from this fundraiser. Additional
details on the 2010 sale:
- Sales begins
Monday, March 8, 2010.
Each Scout who
participates will receive a minimum of ten certificates to sell.
- Sale ends
Monday, May 3, 2010.
All money and unsold
certificates must be turned in at the scout meeting that night or
earlier as
you complete the sales. Note: You will be charged for any
unsold
certificates that are not returned.
